Peter William Stoopnikoff

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and uncle, Peter William Stoopnikoff on May 13, 2023, at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail, BC.

Peter was born on January 8, 1924, in Ostrow (Brilliant), BC, to William and Anastasia Stoopnikoff. He was a hard worker and excelled in many facets of life. Educated as an automotive mechanic and diesel engineer, he purchased a service station and store in Perry Siding, where he expanded his business to include selling chainsaws, tillers and eventually designing and patenting the Valley Comfort wood stove and combination furnace. Peter also built and operated the Cedar Manor apartments in Castlegar for many years and was well known in the community for his many business achievements.

Peter resided most of his life on his farm in Appledale, where he raised his family. He enjoyed life fully and at the age of 54 he built a private landing strip and hanger in his back yard and purchased a Cessna airplane. Peter enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, fishing, playing cards with friends, gardening, and travelled to Russia, Hawaii, Mexico, and the United States, where he purchased a home in Yuma, AZ and was able to spend many winters there. He later retired and moved to Grandview Heights and lived independently until he was 98 years old, then moved to Castle Wood Village in June 2022.

Peter is survived by his daughters Dianna Stoopnikoff and Anne Filippone, son Samual Stoopnikoff, three granddaughters Rhianna, Cathryn and Samantha, a great grandson, as well as many nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his parents, William and Anastasia Stoopnikoff, his wife Florence (Barisenkoff), his sisters Alice Konkin and Irene Anutooshkin and his brother John Stoopnikoff.
