OBITUARY
for
FRANK STEENVOORDEN
It is with great sadness the family of Frank Steenvoorden announces his passing on May 18, 2023
at Castleview Care Centre.
Frank was born on March 8, 1951 to parents Frank and Teresa Steenvoorden in Kortenhoef
Holland. When Frank was only a few weeks old they boarded an immigrant ship named the
Volendam and sailed to Canada.
Frank served in Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) and later in the RCMP Auxiliary. When Frank returned to Castlegar after his service in the RCN he met his wife, Gloria. Frank and Gloria were married on October 7, 1972 and had a son and daughter together. They were married for 50 years when Frank passed away in 2023.
Frank’s career in the forest industry started at Celgar in Castlegar. He later worked for Salmo Forest Products where he made his way into management. Frank was transferred by the company to the United States in 1983 where he managed several forest product mills in Montana and Idaho. In 2002 Frank and Gloria opened the Boat Shop of Spokane. It was a family business until retirement in 2015. In retirement Frank enjoyed walking, camping, traveling in his motorhome and spending time with family and friends. Frank and Gloria returned to Castlegar, BC in September of 2020.
Frank will be dearly missed by all his family and friends and his memories will live on forever in
our hearts.
Left to mourn are his wife Gloria of Castlegar, son Chad (Lori) Steenvoorden of Vancouver WA,
daughter Kim Steenvoorden of Castlegar, BC. Three grandchildren Jacob Chapman, Ciera Bradford
and Austin Bradford. Brothers and sisters, Irene (Rob) Paterson, Maryann (Rob) Fullerton, Tom
(Lynn) Steenvoorden, Mark (Lisa) Steenvoorden, Paul (Holly) Steenvoorden. Sister-in-law Monica
(Richard) Humphries. He will also be greatly missed by many other relatives and friends in Canada,
the United States and Holland.
The family would like to thank Dr. Charman and the staff at Castleview Care Centre for the
compassionate care of Frank in his final days.
A graveside service and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
